Hi! I'm Karen

I am a long-time hobbyist gardener from Illinois and I have always loved to play in the dirt and see what grows.

I hope you discover how fun it is to grow plants for your own enjoyment, indoors and out, any time of year.

My gardens are full of colorful wildflowers, annuals, perennials, herbs and veggies. Like most avid gardeners, I spend the spring, summer, and fall outside in my gardens whenever I can.

Some time ago I discovered some of my neighbors call me "The Sunflower Lady". Isn't that nice?

I planted sunflower seeds down the middle of my veggie garden about ten years ago.

Thanks to the birds and chipmunks spreading the mature sunflower seeds, I've had sunflowers around my yard ever since, and I help them out.

Sunflower seeds are easy to harvest and replant each year. I've learned to spot the seedlings early and weed around them each spring. Sometimes I'll plant a few on purpose to get sunflowers growing in new places.

We love to watch the yellow finches, chipmunks, and squirrels sneak up and eat the sunflower seeds too.

Sunflowers have become popular with hobby gardeners recently. If you like sunflowers too, you can plant them creatively yourself. Check out my Growing Sunflowers Tips.
